Open Day 2011

6 July 2011

The Expatriate Archive Centre opened its doors on 9th June 2011 to showcase our unique collection of letters, diaries, photographs and films, to raise awareness of the value of archives and the need to collect our own history.

We joined the International Council of Archives in March, and decided to hold an Open Day as part of worldwide events marking International Archive Day 2011.

This project soon grew into a full-day event incorporating an exhibition of our oldest photo albums, personal documents etc, films and slide shows (running on computer screens) a performance by the New Dutch Academy musicians and a debate: ‘What is an expat’.

There were two ‘live links’ with other archives using Skype, one with Portugal and one with Barbados.

The day was a great success and we would like to thank all our visitors and those who worked so hard behind the scenes. We look forward to International Archive Day 2012!
