Introducing Elizabeth Emmerson as Advisor to the EAC

20 May 2014

The Expatriate Archive Centre (EAC) is pleased to introduce a new advisor, Elizabeth Emmerson. Elizabeth is Chief Archivist for the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague, and will be advising the EAC in a personal capacity.

Director of the EAC Kristine Racina commented, “This is a great opportunity for the Expatriate Archive Centre to ensure that we maintain high standards of professionalism as we continue to expand. We welcome Elizabeth and are excited to be working with someone with her extensive archival background and experience.”

The EAC grew from a collection of expat life stories into a professional archive, becoming an independent institution in 2008. Since then, the collection has grown and diversified. At its core are over 100 private collections, in 12 different languages, encompassing over 50 countries. Based in The Hague but with a global reach, the EAC employs four staff members who are assisted by an enthusiastic team of volunteers.

Supporting researchers is a major part of the EAC’s mission. Academic researchers from various fields including social history, human geography, anthropology, psychology and genealogy can apply to access the source materials, taking into account the privacy and confidentiality requirements of the donors. The increasing interest of expatriation as a research topic has led to new challenges and opportunities for growth for the EAC.
